About The Event
Join our new Oxford group for a thought-provoking evening and hear a talk from Tim Curry on the challenges of inequality.
That Equality Business
In challenging times like these, dealing with difference is more important than ever. Under pressure, our human nature can sometimes lead us to seek the solace of ‘like minded’ groups and, from the relative safety of that worldview, make judgements and exclude those who are least like us. Recognising and responding to how those deeply held views impacts lives around us is important, not just for ourselves, but also for society.
There is a growing and compelling body of evidence that suggests disconnected, unequal societies are less successful, less secure, and more prone to economic shock. There even appears to be a connection between gross inequality and mental health. It has been said that equality is not something that we should ‘add’ to our lives, or feel some kind of moral obligation towards - rather, it is like gravity. It is something that is an essential part of nature – something we need in order to stand on firm ground.
Join us to find out what the evidence says about inequality and what it might mean for you, your family, and your community.
