About The Event

Come be inspired and rethink how you can approach your goals with a thought-provoking talk by Trevor Ruddock-John.

GRIT: The virtues of delayed gratification and self-discipline

Trevor’s talk will focus on Endurance, Resilience and Creativity. We all have something we are passionate about where we want to apply our energies. Reality has a habit of getting in the way. Trevor will discuss the virtues of delayed gratification and self-discipline to build the endurance and resilience that is necessary to create a container for our creativity. He will share his story of how he built his own buffer for the ups and downs, and engine to power his dreaming. Today, Trevor lives off an engine from which he draws a basic income. This allows him the time and space to focus on the things that are important to him.

About Trevor Ruddock John

Trevor John grew up in South Africa as Apartheid was ending, which has left both deep scars and an inner passion for empowerment. Trevor spent his gap years between school and university in Chichester working as a gap student while his two brothers were finishing Medical School. When he left school, he wanted to study Teaching or Architecture as they combined his interest in Maths and Art. On reflection, he decided to take a deeply pragmatic approach and choose a career that was Maths based as it was easier to monetise.

What people say...

"I was delighted to discover Mahwe. I knew as soon as I'd attended my first event and that this was something exciting. The deep focus on personal development, our human relationships and how we can be the best we can be, are so crucial to living a contented life in a complicated world. Mahwe encourages us to look inwards and outwards, and I find it helps me with setting the compass for what I know I need and want to do in many aspects of my life. As far as I'm concerned, it's good for the soul, heart, mind, body, wider community and environment! With themes for evening sessions like 'being happy', 'decluttering' and 'discovering our talents' as well as the occasional weekend walk to blow away the cobwebs, Mahwe is now a truly valued part of my Oxfordshire life." Mary, Oxford

"This is such a wonderful supportive community, where you find not only friendship but a range of life skills and knowledge shared. I always come away feeling uplifted!" Danie, Abingdon
